Coincidentally Bauhaus bumped into The Stooges front man in a New York hotel at the end of 1980. “Before departing Mr Pop was assailed by an over-awed and excited Murphy who proceeded to tickle him whilst suggesting that he should visit his room,” laughs David J. “That’s some fresh kid you’ve got there,” was Iggy’s astonished response.

SO THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I SAW PETER MURPHY YESTERDAY AND IT WAS THE MOST EXCITING THING EVER

I look stunned and confused in this video because I was.

This cancelled out everything bad that happened earlier that day. I’ve seen Peter Murphy a lot, so he recognizes me and is always really nice. (He once sang Scopes to me and my friend in a parking lot, and one time he started talking to me onstage and held the mic out to me so I could respond.)

Yesterday my sister and I were in the second row behind a couple of tall women. He’d just started singing Gaslit when he saw me behind them, came over to me, reached through the crowd to take my hand (which I wasn’t even holding out) and brought me right next to the stage as he sang to me. He was actually hugging me and pulling me close to him for the whole song; this video starts after he’d held me for a while. He kept putting his face right next to mine, and for part of the time my head was brought into his hip area and I was pressed against his legs. Let me just emphasize that I was not the one causing this; he was the one holding onto me!

After the show I got so many people coming up to me and asking me about it/telling me how lucky I was.

Oh, and when I saw him after the show he clasped both my hands in his, thanked me, and asked if I had a nice time.
